Event description

The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

Support the mission

Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. Your gift helps the March of Dimes fund research, education, advocacy and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

MEET THE SMITH FAMILY

At only 21 weeks along I started having awful stomach pains which landed me in the hospital. It was there that they told us I was dilated to a 1. Terrified isn't even the word to describe how we felt in that moment. Luckily they were able to stop the contractions and I was able to go home under strict bed rest. Just before week 23 1 started having those same awful stomach pains so back to the hospital we went. This time I did not get to leave. I was dilated to a 2 so they started me on magnesium for several days in an effort to stop my labor. After 9 days in labor and hearing over and over that the survival chance our baby has is slim to nothing, Talyon Lee Smith was born on October 1st, 2013 at only 24 weeks, weighing 11b 120z. He was the most fragile human being we had ever seen but he was beyond perfect and beautiful.

11 days into his NICU stay we finally got to hold our precious baby. That is an indescribable feeling to a new momma and daddy especially under these circumstances. After a long and exhausting 122 days in the NICU we got to bring our boy home. He is now a happy, healthy, and beyond rotten little boy. He is obsessed with dirt bikes, monster trucks, and anything else that goes fast. You can only imagine how spoiled he truly is. Talyon is our only child so the whole pregnancy and NICU experience was completely terrifying, but we had no other option but to stay strong and power through whatever obstacles we were thrown. All that being said we fully support the March of Dimes and their continued efforts to prevent pre-term labor. If it wasn't for their knowledge, research, and life saving treatments Talyon may not be the healthy child he is today.
