2022 AMBASSADOR FAMILY
The Rexroad Family
Introducing our 2022 ambassador family, the Rexroads. Clare and Ian Rexroad were shocked but excited to discover that Clare was pregnant with spontaneous triplets in 2017. When Eliza, Ruth, and Henry unexpectedly arrived at 24 weeks on Thanksgiving Day, they knew they were in for a long NICU journey, with many ups and downs.
Sadly, Ruth passed away of pneumonia complications at 70 days of life. Eliza and Henry went on to graduate from the NICU after a four month stay at Kettering Hospital. Though Henry continues to be treated with periodic cardiac catheterizations for pulmonary vein stenosis by the fantastic cardiology team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, he was weaned off of oxygen support by age one, and today, both he and Eliza are strong, active kids!
The Rexroad family then experienced yet another NICU journey when baby Maggie joined the family in December 2021, at 31 weeks gestation. After a two month NICU stay at Good Samaritan Hospital, Maggie was able to join her siblings at home, and has no lasting complications due to her premature birth.
Today, the family resides in Cincinnati and enjoys soccer, traveling, cooking together, playing with their large group of cousins and friends, and navigating the busy life of a family with three children under five!
The Rexroads participate this year in memory of Ruth and in honor of the strength and resiliency of all their children. They want to share their story to serve as encouragement and support for those families experiencing the same struggles and loss. The Rexroads gratefully support the critical research, advocacy, and educational work of the March of Dimes: all four of the Rexroad children received surfactant treatments early in their NICU stays, made possible by research funded by the March of Dimes.
